ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University volleyball team took to the court Tuesday night, as they hosted Edgewood College. The Eagles came out soaring and did not look back. RU managed to have some fight left in them as they made it a close third set, but they could not prevail. Rockford dropped three straight sets losing 25-11, 25-15, and 25-23.
It was a tough night for the Regents offensively as they were not able to generate much momentum. In the first set RU was up 7-5, and that would be the last time they would lead in the set. Come the second set, it was a back-and-forth battle which saw the match tied 7-7 before the Eagles once again pulled away. It was not until the third set when the Regents finally showed some life as they led for the majority of the set. RU was two points away from forcing a fourth set as they led 23-22. Unfortunately, EC would earn the next three points, lifting them to victory.
Offensively Maddison Hiland (Bellevue, Iowa) would lead Rockford in kills, earning 6. Setter Kayla Barthels (Fort Worth, Texas) led the charge for the Regents as she had 16 of the teams 19 assists. Freshman Kaylynne Terry (Streator, Ill.) put together a nice game as she ended the day with a .500 kill percentage, going 4-8 with no errors. Defensively, Terry also logged 4 digs, with 3 block assists. Freshman Jennifer Quintas (Rockford, Ill.) led the defense as she recorded 16 digs, while fellow teammate Jessica Diaz (Bolingbrook, Ill.) helped contribute with 8 of her own.
The Rockford University volleyball team hits the road one last time during its '17 campaign as they face off against Maranatha. The match is scheduled for 7 PM.
