BELOIT, Wis. - The Rockford University volleyball team has been improving all season long, and that trend continued again on Tuesday night at Beloit College. The Regents played perhaps their best match of the season as they held a 2 sets to 1 advantage for the first time this year and recorded more kills than their opponent for only the second time this year. Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to close the match as the Bucs came back to win the final two sets for the 3-2 win.

After dropping an extended first set 28-26, Rockford rebounded with a strong second and third set. The Regents would knot the match at 1-1 with gritty 26-24 effort in which Rockford smashed 14 kills with just 8 errors compared to Beloit's 11 kills and 9 errors. The ladies would then continue to build upon their momentum and win the third set 25-20. Rockford again outhit the Buccaneers with 13 kills and only 5 errors compared to Beloit's 10 kills and 7 errors. Unfortunately things began to swing in Beloit's favor for the final two sets. The Bucs took the fourth set 25-18 and then squeaked out a 15-13 win in the fifth and decided set for a 3-2 victory.

Despite the loss the Regents had multiple individuals put forth excellent performances. Senior Liberty Hartman (Freeport, Ill.) tallied her third straight double-double and was one kill shy of her first 20-20 performance. Hartman finished the match with a team-high 19 kills and 20 digs. Sophomore Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) played perhaps her best match of the year. Storey recorded a season-high 15 kills to go along with 15 digs and 3 service aces. Senior Taylor Rossi (Ingleside, Ill.) also played well as she recorded season-highs in both assists and digs. Rossi finished the match with 42 assists, 19 digs and 3 kills.

The RU volleyball team returns to action on Wednesday, September 28 at home against Mount Mary University. The match has a scheduled start time of 7 PM in the Seaver Center.
