PLATTEVILLE, Wis. - Following a week off, the RU indoor track and field teams return to competition today at the UW-Platteville Invite. Saturday's meet was extremely competitive, as it featured 17 men's teams and 16 women's teams. Although it was a non-scoring meet, Rockford still had numerous excellent individual performances, including Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) breaking his own record in the weight throw event.
Jared Johnson was Rockford's top performer in the throwing events. Johnson broke his own school record by 0.11 meters in the weight throw and finished 26th with a distance of 12.81 meters. He also finished 30th in the shot put with a throw of 11.68 meters.
Jonathan Ponce Cuiriz (Kewanee, Ill.) also threw well setting a new personal best in the shot put. He took 34th in the shot put with a personal best distance of 11.25 meters. Ponce Cuiriz then concluded his day with a 41st place finish in the weight throw with a distance of 9.56 meters.
Freshman Jesus Campos (Chicago, Ill.) had the highest individual finish of any Regent on Saturday. Campos finished 13th and set a new personal best in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.48 seconds. He also finished 26th in the 200 meter with a time of 24.29 seconds.
Fellow freshman Tyrece Ahrens (Kankakee, Ill.) had yet another outstanding day, setting a pair of personal bests. Ahrens' highest finish of the day came in the high jump where he placed 16th with a personal best height of 1.65 meters. He then set a new personal best in the 200 meter dash when he crossed the finish line in 23.86 seconds to place 17th. Ahrens wrapped up his day with a 21st place finish in the 400 meter with a time of 53.82 seconds.
Sophomore Nathan Alldritt (Winnebago, Ill.) took part in a pair of individual events. Alldritt finished 16th in the pole vault with a height of 3.70 meters. He then finished 45th in the 400 meter race, crossing the finish line in a personal best time of 58.73 seconds.
Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) and Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) both also performed well for the Regents. Devant finished 21st in the high jump with a height of 1.60 meters and 22nd in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:05.93. Werkheiser placed 30th in the 400 meter and 38th in the 200 meter with respective times of 55.83 and 24.94 seconds.
The highest finish on the RU women's team belonged to senior Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.). Buechner finished 25th in the 60 meter dash with a time of 8.56 seconds.
Elina Lynge Wagner (Hvidovre, Denmark) participated in both the 400 and 800 meter events. Wagner finished 32nd in the 400 meter and 49th in the 800 meter with respective times of 1:16.97 and 3:09.54.
Nicole Melson (Harvard, Ill.) and Katrina Kopfhamer (Portage, Wis.) were the top two female performers in the throwing events. Melson finished 30th in the shot put and was just .05 meters off the school record with a throw of 9.80 meters. She also took 43rd in the weight throw with a distance of 11.39 meters. Kopfhamer placed 43rd in the shot put and 46th in the weight throw with respective distances of 8.00 meters and 11.00 meters.
The RU indoor track and field teams return to action on Saturday, February 17 at the Margaret Bradley Invite.
