Werkheiser and Buechner Lead Regents at Gill Athletics Final Qualifier

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Rockford University indoor track and field teams concluded their seasons on Friday as a select group of Regents traveled to Kenosha, Wis. to compete at the Gill Athletics Final Qualifier. It was yet another excellent showing for Rockford as the Regents finished in the top 10 in five of the nine individual events they took part in. In addition, Rockford had one individual set a new personal best and another break his own school record. 

Sophomore Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) recorded the highest finish of the day for any Regent. Werkheiser placed 4th in the 400 meter run with a personal best time of 52.28 seconds. The sophomore shaved over three seconds off his previous personal best, and his time was within a second of the RU school record. 

Freshman Nathan Alldritt (Winnebago, Ill.) once again broke his own school record in the pole vault. Alldritt finished in 9th place and cleared a height of 4.01 meters. 

Junior Nick Thomas (Winslow, Ariz.) was the final member of the men's team to compete. Thomas finished in 9th in the 55 meter hurdles with a season best time of 10.21 seconds. 

Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.) was the top performer for the RU women's team on Friday. Buechner finished in 8th place in the finals of the 55 meter dash crossing the finish line in 7.81 seconds. In the preliminaries, Buechner finished third in her heat and was just 0.01 seconds off the RU school record as she crossed the finish line in 7.79 seconds. 

The Regents final top ten finish of the day came from sophomore Virginia Reed (Rockford, Ill.). Reed participated in both the long jump and triple jump events. In the long jump, she finished in 13th place with a distance of 4.13 meters. She then placed 9th in the triple jump covering 9.82 meters. 

Throwers Nicole Melson (Harvard, Ill.) and Maddy Pearson (Peru, Ill.) were the final two Regents to compete. Melson and Pearson each finished in 14th place in the shot put with a distance of 8.88 meters. Person also took part in the weight throw placing 17th with a throw of 9.34 meters.
