AURORA, Ill. - It was a difficult start to the 2013 season for the Rockford University women's tennis team. The Regents opened up their season with a difficult trip to rival Aurora University. The Spartans won all four singles matches, both doubles matches and racked up three default victories to win the dual meet 9-0.
In singles play it was sophomore Monica Parsons (Rockford, Ill./Boylan) who had the best opportunity to win her match. Parsons played a very competitive opening set against her opponent but came up just short falling 6-4. She was then unable to get anything going in the second set dropping it 6-1.
Both doubles matches were highly competitive on Wednesday. The duo of Angela Martinez (Rockford, Ill./Keith County Day) and Monica Parsons were ahead in their match but just could not quite close it out falling 8-5. Carla Ramirez (Rockford, Ill./Guilford) and Alexis Ford (Cortland, Ill./DeKalb) played well in the #2 doubles spot. The duo pushed the Spartans to their limit but came up short losing their match 8-4.
The women's tennis team opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, September 7th. Rockford will host Lakeland College at 10 a.m. followed by Marian University at 2 p.m. Both dual meets will be played on the Barnes Tennis Courts.
