Late Goal Vaults Regents Past Vikings On Senior Day

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University women's soccer team (3-13) won in epic fashion on Sunday afternoon when it celebrated its seniors against the Lawrence University Vikings (0-17). Rockford honored its four seniors before the game on Sunday those being: Erin DiSanti (Rockford, Ill.), Mackenzi Hesselbart (Elkhart, Ind.), Victoria Rodgers (Bakersfield, Calif.) and Nancy Zuniga (Capron, Ill.). It was a back-and-forth battle the entire game but the Regents pulled out the victory with under 5 minutes remaining to seal the 2-1 win on senior day.



  • In the first half, it was Lawrence who outshot the Regents 6-1.
  • Rockford was able to cash in on its only chance in the first half to give the Regents a 1-0 lead.
  • It was a pair of seniors who gave Rockford the lead as Victoria Rodgers sent a beautiful cross into the box as Nancy Zuniga stepped in front of the keeper and knocked it home at the 32' mark.
  • Rockford went into the half with a 1-0 lead.
  • The second half battle ensued as each team had its chances.
  • It would finally pay off for Lawrence as Kelli Quick tied it in the 83rd minute to make it 1-1.
  • With overtime looming Rockford answered the call and scored with five minutes left to take a 2-1 lead.
  • Cassandra Hernandez (Rockford, Ill.) sprung Marion Adelson (Tournan-en-Brie, France) who beat her defender and shot it by the keeper to lift the Regents to victory. 
  • Samantha Bergeron (Mandeville, La.) made countless acrobatic saves for the Regents in crunch time to keep the Vikings from tying the game up.



  • Senior Nancy Zuniga scored her first collegiate goal during her senior game.
  • Senior Victoria Rodgers logged her first assist on the season.
  • Marion Adelson netted her second goal of the season and her first career game-winning goal.
  • Cassandra Hernandez tallied her second assist on the season.
  • Samantha Bergeron played exceptional in net saving 10 of the 11 shots she faced as she earned the win.

The Rockford University women's soccer team returns for it final home game of the season on Thursday, October 25 when it hosts Lincoln Christian. The match is scheduled for 6 PM.
