Women's Basketball Falls in Home Finale to First Place Warriors

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (2-22, 2-17 NACC) fell in its home finale against a strong Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors (22-1, 17-1 NACC) team 93-49 on Tuesday night. The Warriors were 50% on the night from the field which helped propel them to victory. WLC was dominate in the paint with 50 points and saw major contribution from its bench with 55 points. The first place Warriors proved too much for the Regents on Tuesday as they were up at half 48-17, before going on to win 93-49.

 

 

  • The Warriors marched out to a 14-0 lead right off the tip.
  • Wisconsin Lutheran continued to dominate taking a 25-5 lead into the second quarter.
  • The Regents were not able to stop the WLC attack in the second as the Warriors outscored the Regents 23-11 to take a 48-17 lead into the half.
  • Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) led the Regents with 7 points, all of which came in the second quarter. 
  • It would be much of the same in the third quarter as the WLC shot 64.7% in the quarter to just 30% for Rockford. Wisconsin Lutheran would take a 75-27 lead heading into the fourth.
  • Rockford was finally able to get some offense going in the fourth as the Regents scored 23 points compared to 18 for WLC, while shooting 69.2% from the floor. 
  • Unfortunately, RU was not able to mount a comeback as the Regents fell 93-49.

 

 

  • Two Rockford players finished with double-digit scoring on the night. 
  • Sammi Russell (Winnebago, Ill.) led the way with a team-high 13 points and 5 rebounds. Russell was a perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line on the night.
  • Nicole Silvers contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.

 

 

The Rockford University women's basketball team wraps up its 2018-19 season on the road when it travels to Illinois Tech on Saturday, February 16. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
