Buccaneers Burn Regents From Beyond the Arc

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (1-7) was downed by the Beloit College Buccaneers (2-7) 98-73 on Tuesday night. The Buccaneers were converting from downtown at an exceptional rate as they went 14-for-35 in the game. Beloit had a fast-paced offense as it did not use much of the shot clock as BC got shots out quickly. It paid off for the Buccaneers as they finished the game putting up 81 shots and converting on 31 of those to go 48.1% from the field.

 

 

  • The Buccaneers opened the game early on a 5-0 run. Beloit continued to add to its lead as BC was up 14-5 with 3:57 remaining in the first quarter.
  • Rockford crept back into the game as Lexi Rangel (Prophetstown, Ill.) hit a three and came down the court again to knock down a jumper to trail 14-10.
  • It was Rangel a few plays later who hit her second three of the night to have the Regents down 16-13 with 2:06 to go in the first quarter.
  • Beloit would pull away toward the end of the first as the Buccaneers went into the second quarter up 21-15.
  • The two teams exchanged buckets in the second quarter as Rockford was not able to cut into the Beloit lead.
  • Rockford went into the half trailing Beloit 52-37.
  • The Buccaneers were on fire from downtown in the first half as they knocked down an impressive 7-of-16 including going 5-for-8 in the second quarter alone.
  • Lexi Rangel led the Regents at the half with 15 points while shooting 3-for-4 from downtown.
  • In the second half Beloit ran away with the game with a 30-point third quarter to go on to beat the Regents by a final score of 98-73.
  • The Buccaneers continued their impressive shooting from beyond the arc finishing 14-of-35 on the night.

 

 

  • Four Regents scored in double-digits on the night.
  • Linzy Keller (Machesney Park, Ill.) led the Regents with a solid all-around effort. Keller had a team-high 18 points on 7 of-11 from the floor, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. 
  • Lexi Rangel finished with 17 points on 7-of-13 from the field, 2 assists and a rebound.
  • Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) tallied 14 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
  • Katlyn Fiorucci (Machesney Park, Ill.) logged a career-high 12 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.

 

 

 

The Rockford University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 15 when it hosts Edgewood. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
