Team Effort Propels Women's Basketball in Comeback Win

ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (1-5, 1-2 NACC) surged in the second half to complete the comeback win over the Marian University Sabres (0-6, 0-4 NACC) on Tuesday night. Rockford saw itself down 34-27 at half before scoring an impressive 54 points in the second half to go on to win by a final score of 81-75. The Regents made the most of their trips to the free throw line on Tuesday night as they converted on 22-of-27 attempts to help earn their first victory of the season.



  • The Regents fell behind early as the Sabres leaped out to an early 15-1 lead in the first quarter. 
  • Rockford battled back to trail heading into the second quarter 19-11.
  • RU was able to cut it to a two-point game at the start of the second quarter at 19-17. Unfortunately, the Sabres lengthened their lead as they made it a 32-20 game with 2:36 to play in the half.
  • The Regents were able to climb back right before the half as they cut into the Marian lead and made it 34-27 off a Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) three.
  • Linzy Keller (Machesney Park, Ill.) led the Regents at the half with 10 points shooting 4-for-4 from the line.
  • Rockford came out in the third quarter with a purpose as RU raced back and knotted the game up at 38-38 with 6:44 to play in the quarter.
  • The Regents used its momentum to take a 43-42 lead off a Lexi Rangel (Prophetstown, Ill.) three with 4:03 left in the third quarter.
  • From there the two teams exchanged leads. Sammi Russell (Winnebago, Ill.) was dominate in the paint as she scored eight consecutive points to help give Rockford a 55-53 lead heading into the final quarter.
  • The Regents never relinquished their lead as Rockford knocked down key free throws to help secure the 81-75 win for RU. 
  • Rockford shot 11-of-14 from the line in the fourth quarter alone. 



  • 81 points is the most Rockford has scored in a game since January of 2017.
  • Four Regents scored in double-figures on the night. 
  • Nicole Silvers led the way with a season-high 26 points going 3-for-6 from deep and converting 7-of-8 from the free throw line. Silvers also tied her career-high with 7 assists and picked up 6 rebounds and 3 steals.
  • Linzy Keller recorded her first career double-double with 21 points while knocking down 11-of-13 from the line and grabbed 13 boards. Keller also added 3 assists and a steal.
  • Lexi Rangel recorded a new-career high just one game after previously setting her career-high. Rangel chalked up 17 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.
  • Sammi Russell logged 14 points on 7-of-11 from the field and tacked on 2 rebounds and a steal.





The Rockford University women's basketball team returns to action on Saturday, December 8 when it travels to Aurora. Tip-off is set for 2 PM.
