ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University women's basketball team (4-9, 2-6 NACC) took to the court Saturday evening as it hosted the Aurora University Spartans (6-7, 4-4 NACC). The Spartans would get out to an early lead and would never look back. A big factor on the evening was Rockford's inability to capitalize on its shots. Rockford shot 18.2% on the day compared to Aurora's 43.5%. Aurora would leave with a 69-36 victory.

The first quarter opened with the Spartans jumping out to a lead that it would never surrender. Rockford struggled to find the basket as any turnovers it was able to force the Regents were not able to capitalize. Aurora would outscore Rockford 17-7 in the first quarter. The second quarter would be much of the same story as Rockford only scored 4 points compared to the Spartans 22. The Regents would go into the half staring at a 39-11 deficit.

The third quarter would go much better for Rockford as it would surpass its first half scoring total in the third quarter alone. Linzy Keller (Rockford, Ill.), Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.), Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.), and Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) were all able to find the basket in the third. Silvers would lead the Rockford scoring all 8 of her points on the day in the quarter. The Regents would play much better outscoring AU 17-13 in the third quarter. However, Aurora would regain its form in the fourth quarter as it continued to dominate on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball. The Spartans would outscore Rockford 17-8 in the fourth quarter to walk away with a 69-36 victory.

Leading the way for Rockford was Linzy Keller who had a team-high 9 points and 3 rebounds. Nicole Silvers tallied 8 points, 5 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists. Lexie Collins recorded 7 points, 2 steals and an assist. Senior Tajanae Key put together a nice all-around game chalking up 6 points, 6 steals and 5 assists. Key also pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds; coming up one short of 500 on her career.

The Rockford University women's basketball team returns to action when it travels to Lakeland on Tuesday, January 9. Tip-off is set for 7:15 PM.
