ROCKFORD, Ill. - Being a college athlete involves more than just being successful in the classroom and on the softball diamond. It also means giving back to the community and making the lives of those around you better. The Rockford University softball team embraced that idea by volunteering their time at Lincoln Elementary School over the past two months.
The Rockford University softball team (5-35) host the Mount Mary University Blue Angels (7-19) on Friday afternoon to wrap up its season. The two teams got into a slugfest as Rockford went on to split with Mount Mary. RU won game one 6-5 before falling in game two 13-8.
The Rockford University softball team (4-34, 0-22 NACC) concluded the NACC portion of its schedule on Saturday with a pair of road games against the Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons (19-15, 9-9 NACC). It was a tough day for the Regent offense, as Rockford scored just one run in the two games combined. However the Regents played very well in the opener, falling 4-0 to CUW, before dropping game two by a final score of 11-1.
The Rockford University softball team (4-32, 0-20 NACC) faced off against the MSOE Raiders (23-11, 10-8 NACC) on Friday afternoon as RU celebrated senior day and honored Alex Storey (Dexter, Mich.) and Abigail Wellwood (Rockford, Ill.). MSOE showed how strong of a team it was it knocked off the Regents 14-4 in game one before winning game two by a final of 20-0.
The Rockford University softball team (4-30, 0-18 NACC) took to field to face off against the Edgewood College Eagles (14-18, 6-12 NACC) on Wednesday evening. Rockford fought hard in both games but the Eagles offense proved too strong. The Regents fell in game one 17-6 before falling 12-4 in game two.
The Rockford University softball team (4-28, 0-16 NACC) fell twice on Sunday, 11-3 and 14-3, to the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (18-9, 9-3 NACC). Ultimately it was a big first inning by the Cougars in each of the two games that was the difference
The Rockford University softball team (4-26, 0-14 NACC) finally got back to home play as it hosted the Dominican University Stars (15-15, 9-5 NACC) on Saturday afternoon. Dominican entered the contest winners of its last five conference games and continued the streak on Saturday as Dominican beat Rockford 11-3 in game one, before winning 15-4 in game two.
The Rockford University softball team (4-24, 0-12 NACC) had another tough road test on Friday when the Regents squared off against the first-place Benedictine University Eagles (18-9, 9-1 NACC). It was a difficult day for the Regents, as the Eagles got off to a fast start in each of the two games and never looked back, sweeping the doubleheader by final scores of 12-4 and 22-2.
The Rockford University softball team (4-22, 0-10 NACC) returned to action on Tuesday, as the Regents hit the road for a pair of Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference games against the Aurora University Spartans (14-12, 5-3 NACC). Although Rockford fell 11-0 and 7-0, the Regents continued to play hard and gave the Spartans a fight in game two.
