ROCKFORD, Ill. - Rockford University freshman Rylee Klema (Mendota, Ill.) has been named the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Softball Pitcher of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. Klema is now the first ever RU softball player to earn multiple NACC weekly awards in a career or a season.
Rylee Klema had another outstanding week inside the circle for the Regents. Klema posted a 4-1 record and threw five complete games in her five starts, including a pair of nine-strikeout performances. One of her best outings came in Rockford's 2-1 win over Blackburn. Klema allowed just one run on four hits while striking out nine and walking none. The freshman finished the week with a 1.75 earned run average and 30 strikeouts over her 36.0 innings pitched.
Klema has been one of the top pitchers in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference so far this season. She currently leads the NACC in appearances (11), starts (10), wins (6), complete games (9), innings pitched (69.0) and strikeouts (53). She is also seventh in the NACC in earned run average (2.33) among pitchers with at least 20 innings pitched.
The RU softball team returns to the diamond on Thursday, March 21 at Beloit College. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 3:00 PM.
