APPLETON, Wis.- The Rockford University softball team returned to action today to take on Lawrence University in a non-conference doubleheader. The Regents were attempting to carry over their momentum from their walk-off win against Mount Mary. Unfortunately, the Regents were unable to do so falling by the finals of 11-7 and 4-2.
Lawrence scored the first five runs of the game before Rockford was able to respond in the third inning when Brittany Bihun (Schaumburg, Ill.) roped an RBI double to center field to drive in Lisa Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebgo, Ill.). The run brought the Regents back to within four runs. Rockford was not done as Taylor Pilarczyk (Chicago, Ill.) hit a two-run double to plate both Stefaney Kenworthy (Veedersburg, Ind.) and Bihun. Rockford had narrowed the deficit to 5-3.
Once again Lawrence tacked on three more runs to increase their lead to 8-3. Once again, the Regents responded when Stefaney Kenworthy hit a three-run home run over the center field wall driving in Blakeley-Snyder and Caitlin Eiben (Racine, Wis.). Rockford had narrowed the deficit to 8-6. Unfortunately, the Vikings were able to add three more insurance runs and the Regents could only muster one in the final inning. Rockford dropped game one by the final of 11-7.
In game two, Lawrence jumped out to the early 1-0 lead. Rockford tied the game in the second inning when Lynn Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.) hit into a fielder's choice to plate Brooke Burris (Galatia, Ill.). Once again, the Vikings responded with three more runs to take a 4-1 lead. The Regents fought back in the fifth inning to narrow the deficit to 4-2 when Bihun hit an RBI single to drive in Shannon LeGath (Sturtevant, Wis.). Ultimately, Rockford could not add any more runs and fell by the final of 4-2.
Starting on the bump in game one was Stefaney Kenworthy. She threw a complete game allowing 11 runs, only 6 were earned. In game two, Brooke Burris started on the bump. Burris threw a complete game allowing 4 runs, 4 earned, on 6 hits.
Offensively, leading the Regents were Stefaney Kenworthy going 3-for-8 with a three-run home run and two runs scored. Taylor Pilarczyk and Brittany Bihun each added two hits and two RBI's. Lisa Blakeley-Snyder added two hits, two runs scored and two walks.
The RU softball team returns to action Saturday, April 1 against Wisconsin Lutheran College on the Smith Athletic Field with a scheduled start time of 12 p.m.
