MEQUON, Wis. - The Rockford University cross country teams competed at the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Championships on Saturday. The men's team finished in 8th place with a score of 218 while the women's team placed 11th with a score of 334.
The top five individual finishes all came on the men's side for the Regents. Freshman Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) once again led the pack with a 43rd place finish while crossing the finish line in 29:20.5. Fellow freshman Nathaniel Hegge (Roscoe, Ill.) continued to improve as he was the second Regent to finish the race placing 61st with 30:57.8. Junior John Finley (Rockford, Ill.) and freshman Cristan Newton (Shreveport, La.) were nipping at each other's heels all day long finishing just over three seconds apart. Finley completed the race in 31:22.4 to place 68th while Newton placed 70th with a personal best time of 31:25.8. Senior Tyler Burg (Cherry Valley, Ill.) rounded out Rockford's team score finishing in 88th place and recording a time of 34:01.7.
The RU women's team featured a couple of new runners along with a pair of personal best times. Freshman Tien Misler (Winterport, Maine) was the first female Regent to cross the finish line at the NACC Championships. Misler placed 98th with a time of 30:38.6. Lynn Blakeley-Snyder (Winnebago, Ill.) and Fernanda Chavez (Belvidere, Ill.) competed in their first collegiate 6k race on Saturday. Chavez finished in 110th place with a time of 33:18.8 while Blakeley-Snyder crossed the finish line in 35:03.4 to place 114th. Rockford's final two participants on the women's team were Monica Parsons (Rockford, Ill.) and Jovana Ubiparipovic (Roscoe, Ill.). Ubiparipovic placed 116th with personal best time of 35:46.5 while Parsons finished in 117th place with a personal best time of 36:06.9
The RU cross country teams will conclude their seasons in two weeks at 11:00 a.m. at the NCAA Division III Midwest Regionals.
