ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's and women's track and field teams are set to begin its 2018 Indoor season. Both teams bring back an experienced group of returners along with some talented newcomers.

The men's squad is looking to build off solid team performances from a season ago. Junior Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) looks to help propel the Regents to the next level. Werkheiser recorded a top-5 finish in the distance medley relay at the NACC Indoor Championships last year. He also notched a top-10 finish in the 1600m relay at the Indoor Championships. Sophomore Nathan Alldritt (Winnebago, Ill.) recorded a top-5 finish in the pole vault in the NACC Indoor Championships just a year ago. Junior Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) was a part of the distance medley relay in which placed fourth a season ago in the Indoor Championships alongside Werkheiser. Junior Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) returns as the team's best shotput and weight thrower. Johnson saw his best shotput during the Cornell Indoor Invite when he recorded 11.89m placing a top-10 finish. Johnson also set a personal best record in the weight throw reaching a distance of 12.00m in the Margaret Bradley Invitational where he placed a top-10 finish.

The men have a few newcomers added to the roster this year. Freshman Jesus Campos (Chicago, Ill.) brings valuable speed to the track for the Regents this year after finishing third in sectionals in the 100m dash in high school. Fellow Freshmen Tyrece Ahrens (Kankakee, Ill.) and Devon Lawrence (Loves, Park, Ill.) are poised to help the Regents this season.

The women's squad is hoping to improve upon many strong individual performances from last season. Sophomore Maddy Pearson (Peru, Ill.) looks to build off an impressive rookie season in which she performed a personal best in the weight throw with a distance of 9.85m in the NACC Indoor Championships from last season. Pearson was also a part of the 1600m relay that saw a top-10 finish in the Indoor Championships. Senior Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.) plans to improve upon last year's races. Buechner notched a personal best of 7.78 in the 55m at the Indoor Championship. She also recorded a top-3 finish in the Carthage Final Qualifier a year ago. Junior Virginia Reed (Rockford, Ill.) returns for the Regents as the team's best jumper. Reed posted a personal best of 9.82m in the triple jump at the Carthage Final Qualifier a season ago. Junior Lexie Collins (Earlvile, Ill.) looks to continue to make an impact in the relays as she was a part of two top-10 finishes last year in the 1600m relay.

Some talented newcomers will attempt to propel the Regents to the next level. Transfer Kendra Moreno (Rockford, Ill.) comes in looking to help aid in the Regents success this year. Freshmen Allyssa Hobbs (Sterling, Ill.), Elina Lynge Wagner (Hvidovre, Denmark), and Kaylynne Terry (Streator, Ill.) will be expected to contribute to Rockford's score.

The Rockford University's Indoor Track and Field season begins Saturday, January 13 at the Karl Schlender Open in Whitewater, Wis. with a scheduled start time of 10 AM.
