Regents Fierce Second Half Comeback Falls Short


LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (4-4-1, 0-2 NACC) lost a heartbreaker at home Saturday afternoon against the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors (3-5-0, 2-0 NACC). Rockford mounted a strong second half comeback scoring three goals, but a late WLC goal was enough for Wisconsin Lutheran to go on to win 4-3.


  • The Warriors got on the board first scoring 13:27 into the first half, despite Rockford controlling the tempo.
  • WLC would tack one more on in the first half to take a 2-0 lead heading into the intermission.
  • It was a tightly contested match in the first half as both teams registered 7 shots.
  • Rockford held a 5-4 advantage in corners in the first.
  • The Regents came out with a spark in the second half as senior Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) found freshman Simeon Adesina (Plainfield, Ill.) for the goal.
  • Adesina scored just 38 seconds into the second half.
  • The Warriors did not faulter as the got one back just 11 minutes later to take a 3-1 lead.
  • Rockford kept fighting and it paid off less than two minutes later.
  • It was Oeltjenbruns again with the assist as he sent in a free kick that found the head of freshman Jari Leussink (Ootmarsum, Holland) to make it a 3-2 match.
  • The Regents kept the pressure on as Saeed Alqahtani (Riyadh, Saudi Arabia) crossed a ball into the box and Carlos Montes (Waukesha, Wis.) finished it into the back of the net to notch the game at 3-3 at the 68:48 mark.
  • Unfortunately, Rockford would allow a late goal at 85:36 and was not able to tie it back up falling by a final of 4-3.



  • The Rockford University men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 26 when it travels to take on Concordia Chicago. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 PM.
