Regents Take Home The Inaugural Stateline Cup

LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team (2-0-1) hosted the Beloit College Buccaneers (0-3-0) for its inaugural Stateline Cup game on a rainy Wednesday night. It was a highly contested match that would come down to the wire. Fortunately, Rockford would be the beneficiary as Carlos Montes (Waukesha, Wis.) scored the game winning goal with just under four minutes remaining in the match.

 

  • Rockford dominated the possession for the entirety of the game.
  • The Regents outshot the Bucs 11-2 in the first half.
  • Rockford and Beloit would go into halftime tied scoreless.
  • RU kept the pressure on and it finally paid off in the 72nd minute when Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) found Alonzo Carrillo (Harvard, Ill.) in the box as Alonzo tucked it in the near side post to give Rockford the early 1-0 lead.
  • Beloit answered back just minutes later when Deji Agunbiade scored off a free kick to knot it at 1-1.
  • Coming in clutch was freshman Carlos Montes who made his first collegiate goal a game winner.
  • Simeon Adesina (Plainfield, Ill.) tapped it to Montes just outside the box as he placed it perfectly to top right corner. 
  • Rockford went on to win the game by a final score of 2-1.

 

  • Rockford outshot Beloit in the match 21-4.
  • Alonzo Carrillo leads the team with 3 goals.
  • Carlos Montes scored the game winner along with his first collegiate goal off Simeon Adesina's first collegiate assist.
  • Jonathan Eduardo Rosales (Cicero, Ill.) earned his first collegiate win in net, improving his record on the year to 1-0-1.

 

  • The Rockford University men's soccer team returns to the pith on Saturday, September 8 when it travels to take on North Central in Minnesota. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:15 PM.
