Regents Crush Muskies

SHEBOYGAN, Wis. - The Rockford University men's soccer team turned in a dominant performance in an impressive 5-1 road victory over the Lakeland University Muskies. The Regents outshot the Muskies 29-7 including a decisive 17-2 edge in the first half. Rockford also controlled the play around the net limiting Lakeland to just two shots on goal, while recording 15 shots on goal themselves. The win gives Rockford multiple NACC victories in same year for the first time since the conference was formed for the 2006 season.

Rockford was in control the entire afternoon scoring less than seven minutes in and never looking back. Junior Luis Ortega (Rockford, Ill.) broke the scoreless tie just 6:06 into the match when scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Jose Cruz (Moline, Ill.). Rockford would make it a 2-0 game in the 21st minute when Alonzo Carrillo (Harvard, Ill.) found the back of the net from 20 yards out. He was assisted on the play off an excellent pass from Carlos Galvan (Rockford, Ill.). The Regents would add to their lead nine minutes later when Jose Cruz scored his first goal of the season off an assist from Jose Ortega (Round Lake, Ill.). Rockford continued to pepper Lakeland goal scoring one final time in the first half. This time it was Luis Raya (Moline, Ill.) who won a battle for the ball inside the box and then proceeded to beat the Lakeland keeper for his first goal of the season as the Regents took a 4-0 lead into the intermission.

Rockford's final goal came in the 53rd minute of the match when senior Jonathan Hernandez (Chicago, Ill.) fed a perfect pass into the box to Jose Magallanes (Crest Hill, Ill.) who then scored his first goal of the season. That would be more than enough offense for the Regent defenders as Rockford cruised to an easy 5-1 win.

The RU men's soccer team concludes its season on Wednesday, October 25 at Concordia University Wisconsin. The match has a scheduled start time of 3 PM.
