RIVER FOREST, Ill. - Rockford had five players score in double-figures on Monday, as the Regents (7-9, 5-6 NACC) swept the season series with a 94-79 win over the Concordia University Chicago Cougars (1-13, 0-10 NACC). The Regents led from start to finish in what was a truly dominating victory. Rockford scorched the nets all night long connecting on 57.8% (37-of-64) of its shots including knocking down exactly 50% of its attempts from three-point range (7-of-14). The Regents have now won 10 of the last 11 meetings, including 7 straight.
Rockford took control of the game from the opening tip, scoring the first six points and opening with a 17-4 run. The Regents did an excellent job spreading the basketball around, as all five starters scored in the first 5 minutes and 30 seconds led by 5 points from Ben Weber (South Beloit, Ill.) and 4 points apiece from Trae Blumhorst (Mendota, Ill.) and Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.). Rockford's lead remained around ten points until the 4:34 mark when the Cougars were able to claw their way back within three at 35-32. However the Regents responded with 8 straight points to extend their lead back to double-digits before taking a nine-point lead into the break.
The second half got off to an inauspicious start as the Cougars scored on their first two possessions to once again cut the Regent lead down to just five points. Fortunately Rockford quickly put Concordia Chicago in its review mirror, as the Regents connected on their next five shot attempts to take a 58-42 advantage. Rockford was again led by the duo of Tony Diemer and Trae Blumhorst who scored five and four points respectively during that stretch. Concordia Chicago never really threatened for the remainder of the game as the Regents led by 20 points on multiple occasions. Rockford would extend its lead to as many as 24 points with 4:48 remaining before ultimately cruising to a 94-79 win.
Six Regents shot at least 50% from the floor with five of them scoring in double-digits. Tony Diemer once again led the way with his fifth twenty-point game of the season. Diemer poured in a season-high 27 points on 11-for-18 shooting. He rounded out his day with 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Freshman Kevin Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) continued his dominance over Concordia Chicago with his second double-double in as many games against the Cougars. Diemer finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists for his team leading third double-double of the season. Senior Trae Blumhorst continued his excellent all-around play for Rockford. Blumhorst tallied 15 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists, 1 steal and 1 block. Freshman Brandon Emerick (Elkhart, Ind.) hit double-figures in scoring for the fifth time in the last seven games.
