ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's basketball team (7-9, 5-6 NACC) hosted the Wisconsin Lutheran Warriors (2-12, 2-8 NACC) on Saturday afternoon. Three's would come in abundance for Rockford as RU would run away in the second half in route to a 100-77 win over WLC. The Regents put together one its best offensive performances of the year to come out victorious. Rockford shot 62.1% from the floor compared to Wisconsin Lutheran's 49.2% Rockford also shot an impressive 11-of-21 from beyond the arc on the day.
The first half would open with multiple lead changes and turnovers for each side. Rockford would go on a 7-0 run to make it 18-15 with 12:33 left in the half. The run started with deep threes from Ben Weber (South Beloit, Ill.) and Brandon Emerick (Elkhart, Ind.). However, the Warriors would go on a 9-0 run of its own to regain the lead 24-18 with just under 10 minutes remaining. Rockford would answer with another 12-0 run; featuring a Trae Blumhorst (Mendota, Ill.) and one and another Weber three pointer. RU would find some rhythm as it went into the half up 41-37. Blumhorst would led the Regents at the half with 11 points while Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) had 10 of his own. Both teams shot well as Rockford shot 58.6% from the floor in the first half compared to Wisconsin Lutheran's 43.8%. A large part of the half time lead was Rockford's ability to convert from beyond the arc as RU shot 4-7 from three.
Trae Blumhorst and Tony Diemer picked up where they left off at the start of the second half as they combined for ten points in the first five minutes. Rockford would continue to control the pace of the game as RU would never give up its lead. The Regents would take a commanding 77-61 lead with just under 9 minutes to play. A big contributor was the play of Ben Temrowski (Rochester, Mich.) coming off the bench to hit three shots from downtown. Rockford would continue to be on fire shooting taking a 96-76 lead with just over 2 minutes to play. The Regents would cruise to a 100-77 victory over WLC. Rockford would shoot 64.9% from the floor compared to Wisconsin Lutheran's 55.6% in the second half.
Rockford had four players record double-digits on the day. Freshman Brandon Emerick led all scorers and set a new career-high with 24 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals. Emerick shot a blistering 6-for-10 from beyond the arc. Tony Diemer recorded 20 points on 10-of-14 shooting with 4 assists, 2 steals and 2 rebounds. Trae Blumhorst tallied 17 points, 8 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 blocks, and 2 steals. Kevin Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) came off the bench registering 10 points and 5 rebounds. Ben Temrowski came off the bench shooting 3-of-6 from three and tallying 9 points of his own.
The Rockford University men's basketball team takes to the road to face Concordia University Chicago on Monday, January 15. Tip-off is set for 7 PM.
