KENOSHA, Wis. - The Rockford University men's basketball team improved to 2-1 on the season after an impressive 88-74 win on Saturday afternoon against Great Lakes Christian College (0-7). The game was hotly contested early on, featuring nine lead changes and one tie in the opening nine minutes of play. Fortunately, Rockford was slowly able to assert its dominance over the final 31 minutes en route to an easy victory.
After nine minutes of play where neither team was really able to establish themselves, Rockford used a barrage of threes to grab control of the game. The Regents hit four 3-pointers in a span of just three minutes to take a 32-24 lead. Ben Temrowski (Rochester, Mich.) was the key cog during Rockford's 12-2 run as he knocked down two of the four threes as the Regents began to catch fire from the floor. The lead would hover around eight points until the four minute mark when Rockford used a 9-0 run to take a commanding 46-29 lead. Temrowski scored five of the nine points including draining his third triple of the half, while Kevin Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) scored the other four.
The second half was all Rockford, as the Regents never let Great Lakes Christian College back into the game. Temrowski and Diemer continued to have the hot hand in the early moments of the second half as they combined to score Rockford's first 10 points. Temrowski got things started with his fourth 3-pointer of the afternoon before Diemer scored 7 straight points, including knocking down a triple of his own. The Regents would extend their lead to as many as 24 points with about 5 minutes remaining, before cruising to an easy 88-74 win.
Rockford continues to improve on the offensive side of the court, as it had by far its best shooting performance of the young season. The Regents shot a blistering 50.0% from the floor and knocked down a season-high nine 3-pointers. Rockford also controlled the boards once again on Saturday holding commanding 48-37 rebounding edge. The Regents have now outrebounded their opponent in all three games so far this year.
The Regents finished the game with five players scoring in double-figures. Ben Temrowski and Tony Diemer (Rockford, Ill.) led the way with 16 points and 3 rebounds each, with Diemer also adding 2 assists and 1 steal. Kevin Diemer was sensational off the bench, scoring 13 points on 6-of-10 shooting, while also adding 5 rebounds and 2 assists. Brandon Emerick (Elkhart, Ind.) also played very well off the bench with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting to go along with 4 assists, 2 rebounds and 2 steals. Will Adams (Chicago, Ill.) was the final Regent to hit double-digits on Saturday, with 10 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists.
Rockford's Taylor Krocker (Portage, Wis.) earned all-tournament team status for his play this weekend. Krocker averaged 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while shooting 64.7% shooting from the floor.
