ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football program is pleased and excited to announce the hiring of Will Cinelli as its offensive coordinator. Cinelli will take the reins of the RU offensive attack, serving as the team's play caller as well as working with the offensive line. Coach Cinelli brings a wealth of coaching experience to the Regent sideline, having coached at the collegiate level for nine seasons.
"Coach Cinelli is an excellent addition to our staff," Head Coach J.T. Zimmerman stated. His wide range of experience on the offensive side of the ball is going to be a huge component to taking our program to the next level. He is an excellent coach who will do a great job of teaching the techniques and skills necessary for a successful offensive unit. I look forward to watching our offense take a big step forward next fall!"
"I am very excited to get the chance to work with such an exceptional group of players and coaches here at Rockford University," Coach Cinelli stated. "Coach Zimmerman and I share a vision for what a winning program looks like, and I am confident that we are on a path towards making Rockford football a program that is consistently competing for a conference title."
Coach Cinelli joins the Regents after three separate stops totaling seven seasons at the University of St. Francis. During his time on the St. Francis sideline, the Fighting Saints won two Mid-States Football Association Championships (2015, 2011) and had numerous players voted all-conference. Over the last two plus seasons, Cinelli served as the associate head coach, offensive line coach and the recruiting coordinator for the Fighting Saints. While in that role, Cinelli coached a talented group of offensive lineman that featured four first team all-conference selections. Prior to making the jump to associate head coach, Cinelli spent one season as the special teams coordinator, wide receivers coach and recruiting coordinator. During that season, Cinelli coordinated and installed the special teams units and once again coached multiple all-conference selections. Prior to that, Coach Cinelli spent four seasons working with multiple position groups including the offensive line, running backs and tight ends, including mentoring a First Team All-American offensive lineman.
In addition to his stints at the University of St. Francis, Cinelli also made coaching stops at both Northern Illinois University and Montana Tech University. At Montana Tech University, Cinelli, coached a 1,000-yard rusher as the team's running backs coach and oversaw the kickoff return unit. He then spent one season at Northern Illinois University as the Football Operations Graduate Assistant.
Cinelli earned his master's degree in Education from the University of St. Francis and his bachelor's degree in Journalism and Political Science from Northwestern University.
