EUREKA, Ill.- The Rockford University football team (3-7, 2-5 NACC) concluded its season on Saturday with a tough 38-7 defeat at the hands of the 2018 NACC Champion Eureka College Red Devils (9-1, 6-1 NACC). Eureka has been the top team in the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference all season long with their lone defeat coming by just one point at Lakeland University. Although the final score might not indicate it, the game was close and within reach until late in third quarter when the Red Devils scored 14 points to seal the win.

  • The Red Devils scored the first points of the game on their second possession of the first quarter. Eureka went 54 yards on 10 plays capped off by an 8-yard touchdown run by Le'Anthony Reasnover to take a 7-0 lead.
  • The Regents appeared as though they were going to answer with a score of their own on the very next possession. Brandon Hausladen (Athol, Idaho) gave Rockford excellent field position with a 42-yard kickoff return, giving the Regents first and ten at the Eureka 49-yard line.
  • Rockford methodically moved the ball down the field, until the Regents had a first and goal at the Eureka 10-yard line. Unfortunately Rockford was unable to score, missing a 22-yard field goal and giving the ball back to the Red Devils at their own 20-yard line.
  • Eureka capitalized with another touchdown on its very next possession. The Red Devils went 80 yards on 10 plays and scored on a 26-yard touchdown pass to extend their lead to 14-0.
  • The Red Devils added a 27-yard field goal on its final possession of the first half to take a 17-0 lead into the break.
  • After neither team scored on their opening possessions of the third quarter, the Red Devils found the end zone on back-to-back possessions to make it a 31-0 lead.
  • Rockford would however answer with a touchdown of its own on the very next series. Quarterback Eric Mackey (Marengo, Ill.) led the Regents down the field, covering 60 yards on just 6 plays. Mackey capped off the drive with a 9-yard touchdown pass to tight end Adam Ambrogio (Rockford, Ill.), cutting the Eureka lead to 31-7.
  • Unfortunately Eureka responded right back with a touchdown on their next possession to make it a 38-7 game. Eureka's Le'Anthony Reasnover scored his 40th rushing touchdown of the season on the drive, which is just three off the NCAA Division III record.
  • Rockford had one final chance to cut into the Eureka lead midway through the quarter. Mackey again led the Regents down the field hitting 20-yard pass plays to both Hausladen and Ambrogio, to give his team a first and goal at the one-yard line. However, the Regents were unable to punch it in, and fell by a final score of 38-7.

  • Defensive end Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) concluded his collegiate career with yet another outstanding performance. Johnson finished with a game-high 11 tackles, including 6 solo tackles and 1 tackles for loss. It is the third time this year Johnson has had at least 10 tackles in a game. Johnson finished the season with a NACC leading 8 sacks, which is just one off the Rockford University single-season record. At the conclusion of his career, Johnson ranks eighth in school history in tackles (210), third in sacks (15) and tied for sixth in tackles for loss (30.5).
  • Zachary Bothem (Roscoe, Ill.) was all over the field as well, finishing with a season-high and tying his career-high with 10 tackles.
  • Quarterback Eric Mackey completed 18 passes for 240 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • Liam Joyce (Harvard, Ill.) led the Rockford receivers with 5 catches for 84 yards.
  • Adam Ambrogio finished with 5 receptions for 48 yards and 1 touchdown.
  • Running back Chance Manning (Durand, Ill.) finishes as Rockford's second all-time leading rusher. Manning concluded his career with 560 rushes for 2,880 yards to average 5.1 yards per carry. Manning also ranks fourth in school history with 13 rushing touchdowns in a career.
