ROCKFORD, Ill. - Junior defensive back Dylan Peterson (Reynolds, Ill.) earned not one but two weekly awards on Tuesday morning for his outstanding performance on the field last Saturday. Peterson was voted the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference Football Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week, and selected as one of the two safeties on the D3football.com Team of the Week. Peterson becomes the second Regent football player this season to earn a weekly award from the NACC, and only the second Regent ever to be named to the D3football.com Team of the Week. Rockford's other D3football.com Team of the Week recipient came during the 2013 season when wide receiver Delroy Russell Jr. was selected.
Dylan Peterson helped lead the Regents to their first shutout since the 2008 season with a 24-0 win over Concordia Wisconsin on Saturday. The junior defensive back was all over the field, intercepting a pair of passes, recording one sack, forcing a fumble and making four tackles. His second interception came at a crucial point with less than a minute remaining in the first half and Rockford holding a 10-0 lead. Peterson came up with a diving interception at the Rockford 3-yard line to end the scoring threat and CUW's lone trip into the red zone.
The Rockford University football team will conclude its season on Saturday, November 10 at Eureka College. Kickoff is set for 1:00 PM.
