ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University football team (2-5, 1-3 NACC) hosted the Aurora University Spartans (2-5, 2-2 NACC) on Saturday afternoon. In the first half the weather was fierce with snow gusts over 20 mph. The snow let up in the second half, but the winds continued to roar. Aurora jumped out to a 22-0 lead at the half thanks to a strong run game. The Regents outscored the Spartans 7-3 in the second half but were not able to capitalize on their drives falling to Aurora 25-7.

  • On Aurora's first play of the game Tyran Bailey rushed for 8 yards before taking his next carry 62 yards up the middle to give AU the early 7-0 lead.
  • After the Regents failed to move the ball on the ensuing possession Aurora took over looking to continuing its momentum.
  • The Spartans strung together an 11 play 87-yard drive that was capped off by a 2-yard touchdown run from Gavin Zimbelman.
  • AU ran a trick play for the two-point conversion as Geron Rogers found Colton Jewell open in the endzone to extend the Spartan lead to 15-0 with 6:56 left in the first quarter.
  • The Regents marched down the field on their next possession with the help of a 35 yard pass play by Eric Mackey (Marengo, Ill.) to Brandon Hausladen (Athol, Idaho).
  • Unfortunately, Rockford was unable to come away with any points as RU turned the ball over on downs on the Aurora 9-yard line.
  • Aurora made it a perfect 3-for-3 on its possessions scoring every chance it got.
  • This time the Spartans put together an impressive 13 play, 91-yard drive while eating up 7:21 to put AU up 22-0. It was Zimbelman again who punched it in this time from a yard out.
  • Aurora continued to give the Regents trouble in the ground game as the Spartans managed to gash RU with a ground and pound attack for much of the first half.
  • The Regents started with promise in the second half as RU came out and put together another strong possession as it marched for 74 yards on 20 plays. Again, Rockford was unable to punch it in as the Regents were stuffed on the one-yard line as Aurora forced another turnover on downs.
  • On the Spartans ensuing drive they marched 10 plays for 85 yards and were stalled at the Rockford 14-yard line. However, Sean Kerr was able to convert on a 32-yard field goal to give Aurora a 25-0 lead with :22 left in the third quarter.
  • On Rockford's next possession they were finally rewarded after a 14 play 75-yard drive.
  • Eric Mackey scrambled out of the pocket from 10 yards out and dove over the goal line to put Rockford on the board with 10:13 left in the game.
  • The Regent defense did well to force two consecutive three-and-outs, but the offense was not able to find the endzone again as Rockford went on the fall to Aurora by a final score of 25-7.
  • Tyran Bailey for Aurora finished with an impressive 231 yards on the ground during the game.

  • Erick Mackey led all Rockford rushers with 80 yards on 23 attempts and added the lone touchdown.
  • Liam Joyce (Harvard, Ill.) rushed for an average 8.7 yards per carry while Chance Manning (Durand, Ill.) rushed for an average of 6.3 yards per rush.
  • Brandon Hausladen led Rockford with 50 receiving yards on just 3 catches.
  • Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.), Jallen Bashford (Fairbury, Ill.) and Octavio Galvez (Loves Park, Ill.) all recorded a team-high 9 tackles each on the day.
