ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University baseball program was honored by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) this week with its Team Academic Excellence Award for the Rockford's outstanding accomplishments in the classroom during the 2018-19 academic year. This marks the second time in the last three years the Regents have earned the ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award (2016-17). Rockford was also one of only 80 NCAA Division III baseball programs and one of just four NACC schools to receive the honor this year.
The ABCA Team Academic Excellence Award is given out annually by the American Baseball Coaches Association to recognize excellence in the classroom over the most recent academic year. A team must maintain a 3.00 cumulative team grade point average and have its the head coach be an ABCA member in order to be considered for the award.
The American Baseball Coaches Association has a long tradition of recognizing the achievements of baseball coaches and student-athletes. The ABCA/Rawlings All-America Teams are the nation's oldest, founded in 1949, and the ABCA's awards program also includes the ABCA/Rawlings All-Region Awards, the ABCA/Diamond Regional & National Coaches of the Year and several other major awards such as the ABCA Hall of Fame and the Ethics in Coaching Award.
