ROCKFORD, Ill. - Rockford University junior outfielder Michael Gunter (Maricopa, Ariz.) garnered his first weekly award of the season early Tuesday morning when he was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. Gunter becomes the first RU baseball player to receive the award this season and the first position player for the Regents to be selected to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week since 2015.
Michael Gunter had at least three hits in three of Rockford's four games over the weekend. He began by going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs in Rockford's 6-1 win over Lakeland. He then went 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs in the opener against Aurora. Gunter capped off his week with a perfect 4-for-4 performance in the nightcap against the Spartans where he was a home run shy of the cycle. For the week, Gunter hit .667 with a .688 on-base percentage and a 1.067 slugging percentage. He finished with ten hits including four doubles, a triple, four runs scored and seven runs batted in.
The Rockford University baseball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, May 7 at #1 ranked Concordia University Chicago. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 PM in River Forest, Illinois.
