WAVERLY, Iowa - Both the Rockford University men's and women's cross country teams returned to competition on Saturday at the Dan Huston Invite. The men's field consisted of 203 runners for the 8k race, while the women's race had 145 runners in its 6k event. Although Rockford did not have enough participants to record a team score for either event, the Regents did have multiple excellent individual performances.
The RU men's team had four individuals participate, led by junior Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.). Devant had the highest finish of any Regent on Saturday as he placed 82nd and crossed the finish line in 28:18.0. Fellow junior Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) recorded a new season best with a time of 28:45.1 to place 100th. Cristan Newton (Shreveport, La.) and Nick Noel (Belvidere, Ill.) rounded out the RU men's team. Newton placed 153rd with a time of 30:07.7, while Noel finished in 176th place with a time of 31:51.3
The Rockford women's team consisted of the duo of Elina Lynge Wagner (Hvidovre, Denmark) and Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.). Wagner crossed the finish line in 32:16.7 to finish in 135th place, while Buechner placed 137th with a time of 32:27.5.
The Regents are set to return to competition on Saturday, October 14 at the UW-Oshkosh Kollegetown Invite.
