ROCKFORD, Ill. - The RU volleyball team played host to Marian University on Friday night. The final score of the match would not reveal how close of a contest this would turn out to be. The Regents played well as they were in almost every set, until the Sabres would pull away at the end. Rockford would force four sets but were not able to force a fifth. The Regents would lose the first set 25-19. RU would show its resiliency as they answered right back to take the second set 25-20. The Sabres would come back strong as they won the third set by a score of 25-12. The Regents attempted to force a fifth set but fell short as Marian took the final set 25-18.
Rockford had 4 players record at least 5 kills in the match. Jessica Diaz (Bolingbrook, Ill.) led the team with 9. Emily Johannes (Eau Claire, Wis.) added 7 kills, while Maddison Hiland (Bellevue, Iowa) and Kaylynne Terry (Streator, Ill.) each contributed with 6 of their own. Sophomore setter Kayla Bathels (Fort Worth, Texas) continued to organize the attack as she accounted for 23 of the teams 28 assists. Barthels was also one dig shy of recording a double-double on the night. Freshman libero Jennifer Quintas (Rockford, Ill.) led the team in digs as she recorded 14. Johannes helped aid the defense as she chalked up 11 assists of her own, and fell just 3 kills short of a double-double as well.
