ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University volleyball teamed played its first home game of the season on Wednesday evening against Wisconsin Lutheran College. The match was closer than the final score may indicate, as the Regents battled the whole way falling to the Warriors 3-0.
The match started out well for RU, as the points went back and forth in the first set. Unfortunately, WLC was able to overcome the Regent attack winning the first set 25-18. The momentum carried into the next two games as the Warriors wore down RU, winning the next two sets 25-13 and 25-12. Offensively Rockford was led by the duo of Emily Johannes (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Jessica Diaz (Bolingbrook, Ill.). Johannes and Diaz combined to record 14 of Rockford's 18 kills with Johannes tallying 8 and Diaz recording 6. Kayla Barthels (Fort Worth, Tex.) organized the Rockford attack recording a team-high 11 assists. Defensively the Regents had a pair of players with at least five digs.
