ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - The Rockford University outdoor track and field teams participated in their final meet of the season on Thursday evening at the Augustana Twilight Final Qualifier. This was a non-scoring meet as it was the final day for student-athletes across the country to improve their marks prior to next week's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship.
Kaylynne Terry (Streator, Ill.) continued her outstanding freshman season with yet another great performance. Terry finished sixth in the shot put with a throw of 13.25 meters. She still currently holds the ninth farthest throw in all of Division III in the shot put at 13.98 meters. Terry's mark should qualify her for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field National Championship, which begins next Thursday in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) and Katrina Kopfhamer (Portage, Wis.) were the other two members of the women's team to compete on Thursday. Collins finished third in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a personal best time of 13:34.76. She also took seventh in the javelin with a throw of 26.73 meters. Kopfhamer finished 25th in the hammer throw with a distance of 35.45 meters.
Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) and Devon Lawrence (Loves Park, Ill.) each participated in at least two throwing events. Johnson's best performance came in the javelin where he placed seventh with a personal best throw of 38.35 meters. He also took part in the discus and hammer throw events with respective distances of 37.39 meters and 38.35 meters. Lawrence's top performance was in the discus where he finished 20th with a personal best throw of 37.25 meters. He then concluded his evening in the hammer throw with a mark of 32.35 meters.
Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.), Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) and Jesus Campos (Chicago, Ill.) all ran in at least one event on Thursday. Devant had the highest finish of the three, placing seventh in the 800 meter race with a time of 2:01.20. Werkheiser finished eighth in the 400 meter event and crossed the finish line in 51.72 seconds. Campos finished 13th in the 400 meter race with a personal best time of 53.42 seconds and 27th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 24.09 seconds.
