Track and Field Competes at the Dr. Keeler Invite

NAPERVILLE, Ill. - The Rockford University track and field teams participated in the Dr. Keeler Invite hosted by North Central College on Thursday and Friday. This was a non-scoring meet as individual student-athletes focused on improving their marks both for national rankings and personal records.

Kaylynne Terry (Streator, Ill.) had the highest finish of any Regent at the meet. Terry placed sixth in the shot put with a distance of 13.17 meters.

Maddy Pearson (Peru, Ill.) and Lexie Collins (Earlville, Ill.) each participated in the javelin throw. Pearson set a new personal best in the event with a distance of 28.33 meters, while Collins recorded a distance of 25.60 meters. Collins also took part in the 3000 meter steeplechase and finished 30th with a time of 14:03.97.

Katrina Kopfhamer (Portage, Wis.) took part in the hammer throw event, recording a distance of 36.72 meters.

Jared Johnson (Miami, Fla.) and Devon Lawrence (Loves Park, Ill.) each participated in a trio of events. Johnson finished 13th in the shot put with a distance of 12.93 meters and then recorded distances of 38.66 meters in the discus and 38.78 meters in the hammer. Lawrence tallied throws of 31.33 meters in the javelin, 35.60 meters in the discus and 30.96 meters in the hammer. 

Nick Thomas (Winslow, Ariz.) also took part in two throwing events on Friday. Thomas recorded throws of 34.31 meters in the javelin and 11.26 meters in the shot put. 

Bailey Beard (Rockford, Ill.), Tyrece Ahrens (Kankakee, Ill.), Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.) and Jesus Campos (Chicago, Ill.) all ran in one individual event on Friday. Beard set a new personal best in the 1500 meter race when he crossed the finish line in 4:33.17. Ahrens finished 20th in the 400 meter race with a time of 51.08 seconds. Werkheiser took 27th in the 400 meter dash with a time of 52.04 seconds. Campos placed 50th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.97 seconds.

Rockford also had one relay team compete late Friday night. Tyrece Ahrens, Jesus Campos, Christian Devant (Winnebago, Ill.) and Joe Werkheiser finished 19th in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:36.39.
