FOND DU LAC, Wis. - The RU women's basketball team completed its season sweep over the Marian University Sabres on Saturday with a 75-61 road victory. The first half of the game was very close throughout as there were 11 lead changes and 5 ties. However the momentum swung heavily in Rockford's favor after halftime as the Regents outscored the Sabres 24-8 in the third quarter en route to an easy 75-61 win.

After falling behind in the early moments of the game, Rockford slowly began to assert itself. The Regents used a 9-2 run midway through the first quarter to take a 14-13 lead with 3:09 remaining. Taylor May (East Moline, Ill.) and Tajanae Key (Glendale Heights, Ill.) led the Rockford charge scoring four and three points respectively. The led would bounce back and forth over the remaining three minutes until Nicole Silvers (Byron, Ill.) drained a jumper at the buzzer to put her team in front 18-17 heading into the second. The score remained close until the Regents used a 7-0 run led by five points from Silvers to give Rockford a 7-point lead, its largest of the half. However, the pesky Sabres would not go away as they pulled back to within three with less than ten seconds remaining. Once again the Regents had the answer, but this time it was Key who knocked down a jumper as time expired to put her team in front 38-33 heading into the half.

The second half got off to a great start as the Regents opened with an 8-0 run to seize control. Mallorie Getzelman (Byron, Ill.) caught fire draining back-to-back threes as Rockford jumped out to a 45-33 advantage. A couple of minutes later, the Regents used their second 8-0 run of the quarter to open up a 55-37 lead. It was again Getzelman who led the charge scoring four points including knocking down her third three-pointer of the quarter. Rockford would further extend its lead with a 5-0 run to close out the period as the Regents took a 62-41 lead into the fourth. Although the Sabres were able to cut into Rockford's lead in the final period, the game was never really in doubt as the Regents went on to win by a 75-61 final.

Mallorie Getzelman led Rockford with 21 points on 7-of-16 shooting and also grabbed 3 rebounds. Currently Getzelman is the second leading scorer in the conference averaging 20.0 points per game but is just 0.2 points per game behind the NACC's leading scorer with two games remaining.

Taylor May and Nicole Silvers were the other two Regents to score in double-figures on Saturday. May continued to build upon her outstanding freshman season scoring 19 points with 6 rebounds and 2 steals. With just one week remaining in the regular season, May is currently the leading scorer amongst all NACC freshmen this year averaging 17.9 points per game. Silvers also played very well scoring 18 points as she connected on 8-of-15 shot attempts. She then rounded out her stat line with 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Tajanae Key turned in a great all around game for Rockford with 9 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.
