ROCK ISLAND, Ill. - Both the RU men's and women's cross country teams took part in the Brissman-Lundeen Invite on Friday. The men's team competed in a 4 mile race, while the women's team ran in a 5k race. Despite the hot and balmy weather, the Regents ran very well with multiple individuals setting new personal bests.
Both Tracy Wang (Lianyungang, China) and Jamie Buechner (Island Lake, Ill.) turned in stellar performances setting new personal bests in the 5k. Wang finished 127th out of 156 participants and set a new personal best by about 40 seconds when she crossed the finish line in 26:32.3. Buechner set a new personal best by nearly a minute when she completed the race in 26:54.4 to finish in 129th place.
The men's team had a trio of runners complete in a field of 216 participants. Rockford's top performer was Joe Werkheiser (Lena, Ill.). Werkheiser finished in 93rd place as he crossed the finish line in 24:17.0. Cristan Newton (Shreveport, La.) was not far behind as he completed the 4 mile race in 24:18.3 to place 96th. Nick Noel (Belvidere, Ill.) was the final participant for Rockford, placing 185th with a time of 27:35.9.
The RU cross country teams return to action next Saturday, September 30 at the UW-Oshkosh Kollegetown Invite.
