Regents Place 8th at NAC Indoor Championships
KENOSHA, Wis. - Both the Rockford College men's and women's indoor track and field teams placed 8th at the 2013 Northern Athletics Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The men's team scored a total of 11 points and the women's team scored 8 points.
The men's results were highlighted by freshman Ian Walton (Acworth, Ga./Sprayberry). Walton earned a medal in the 55 meter hurdles when he placed third. He becomes the first Regent to ever medal in the event since the track & field program was reestablished in 2004. In addition, his time of 8.33 seconds broke his own school record. Walton also took 13th in the 200 meter dash and 20th in the 55 meter dash with times of 24.45 seconds and 7.14 seconds respectively.
Other runners earning points for the men's team were junior Jacob Arnold (Plainfield, Ill./North), sophomore Carl Rapp (Union, Ill./Belvidere North) and sophomore Ryan Mehren (Rockford, Ill./Jefferson). Arnold's top finish came in the 200 meter dash where he placed 7th out of 35 runners and crossed the finish line in 23.82 seconds. The junior also ran in the 55 meter dash placing 11th and the 400 meter dash placing 14th. Rapp's best finish was in the mile run where he took 8th when he completed the race in 4:43.08. The sophomore also took 13th in the 800 meter race finishing with a time of 2:07.91. Finally, the men's 4x400 meter relay team of Jacob Arnold, Ryan Mehren, Carl Rapp and Ian Walton earned the Regents points for its 7th place finish with a time of 3:43.82.
Sophomore Barbara Duffy (Tampico, Ill./Prophetstown) and junior Genesis Cerrato (Las Vegas, Nev./Valley) each scored points for Rockford with their finishes on Saturday. Duffy finished 4th in the 400 meter dash and broke her own school record when she completed the race in 1:03.09. The sophomore also broke a school record when she finished 12th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.34. Cerrato finished 6th in the 5000 meter race completing the event in 19:44.10. She also took 13th in the 3000 meter race with a time of 11:45.19.
