LOVES PARK, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team took to the field Wednesday night for their last home game of the season, as well as honoring their seniors. RU faced off against Edgewood College in what would be a tight contest in the first half, with both teams scoring 1 going into halftime. The Eagles would outscore the Regents to edge out the win with a final score of 4-2.
The scoring was started out by Edgwood scoring 28:52 into the game. It took a little over 2 minutes until RU knotted the match at 1-1. Senior Jonathan Hernadez (Chicago, Ill.) kept pressure on the EC defense as he forced a turnover and buried it home from 8 yards out. The Regents controlled much of the first half as they outshot Edgewood 13 to 6. The second half was a close battle in terms of possession. Edgewood outshot RU 7 to 6, while scoring three goals in a 12 minute span. As the game ensued Rockford would continue to create chances on the offensive side. In the 77th minute Brandon Oeljenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) showcased his footwork as he faked his shot at the top of the box, cutting the ball back and continued to dribble by two defenders. The goalie would come off his line to make a play, but Oeljenbruns touched it by him, and tucked it into the back of the net.
RU men's soccer returns to the pitch on Saturday, October 21 as they travel to Lakeland University. The match has a scheduled start time of 4:30 PM.
