ROCKFORD, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team took to the field Wednesday afternoon facing off against Aurora University. The match was hard fought and scoreless entering the second half of play. Aurora would go on to win the game, with a final score of 7-1.
The game was very close in the first half as both teams worked hard with nothing to show for it. Aurora led in shots in the half 7-to-4, with the Regents being the only team to register a shot on goal in that span. The Spartans opened up the scoring quick into the second, scoring just a little over 2 minutes in. AU would go on to take a 2-0 lead as the game ensued. Moments after the Spartans second goal, Bailey Beard (Rockford, Ill.) found the back of the net for the Regents, cutting the score to within one. Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) made the goal possible as he dribbled into the box drawing the keeper off of his line. Once the keeper came out far enough, Oeltjenbruns passed the ball across the box finding Beard for the tap in goal. However, the Spartan attack was too much for RU as they went on to score five unanswered goals.
The Regents return to the field Saturday, October 7 as they take on Moody Bible at home. The match is scheduled for 3:30 PM.
