MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Rockford University men's soccer team picked up a crucial 1-0 victory on Saturday over the Wisconsin Lutheran College Warriors bringing the Regents record to 1-1 in NACC play. Rockford dominated Wisconsin Lutheran for most of the match as the Regents held a 22-13 edge in shots including a whopping 13-3 advantage in shots on goal. The win is Rockford's first victory over Wisconsin Lutheran since both schools joined the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference in 2006.
The difference in the match came in the 43rd minute when junior Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) connected on a shot from 15 yards out off an assist from Jose Cruz (Moline, Ill.) to break the scoreless tie and give the Regents a 1-0 lead. Goalkeeper Anthony Beck (Fishers, Ind.) and the rest of the RU defense would take it from there. Beck saved all three of the Warriors' shots on goal to pitch his first shutout of the season.
The Rockford offense kept constant pressure on the Warrior defense throughout the match as the Regents had four players record at least two shots on goal. Brandon Oeltjenbruns and Jose Ortega (Round Lake, Ill.) led the way tying for the team-high with three shots on goal each, while both Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.) and Bailey Beard (Rockford, Ill.) recorded two.
The RU men's soccer team returns home on Wednesday, September 27 to face Concordia University Chicago. The match has a scheduled start time of 7:00 PM at Sportscore 2.
