WATERTOWN, Wis. - The RU men's soccer team hit the road on Tuesday looking to pick up its first win of the season against the Maranatha Baptist University Sabercats. Rockford was in control nearly the entire match as the Regents held a commanding 14-4 advantage in shots, a 6-1 edge in shots on goal and a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks. However, the Regents were unable to convert on any of their opportunities as each time Rockford applied pressure, the Sabercats thwarted the Regent charge. Unfortunately it was the Sabercats who converted on their only shot on goal in the 13th minute to score what turned out to be the game-winning goal as Rockford fell by a final score of 1-0.
The trio of Jonathan Hernandez (Chicago, Ill.), Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.) and Cruz Marquez (Arvado, Colo.) accounted for 9 of the Regents' 14 shots. Hernandez led the way with 5 shots including 1 shot on goal, while Marquez tallied 2 shots with 1 of those coming on goal. Manriquez took 2 shots including a team-high 2 shots on goal.
The RU men's soccer team returns to action on Saturday, September 9 at Cornell College. The match has a scheduled start time of noon.
