CHICAGO, Ill. - The Rockford University men's soccer team improved to 5-2-1 on Wednesday with a 3-2 road win over Moody Bible Institute. The Regents continue to have one of their best seasons in recent memory as their five victories already eclipses the most wins in a season in over ten years. Additionally, Rockford currently sits tied atop the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference heading into their match this Saturday against Wisconsin Lutheran.
The Regents got off to a bit of a slow start against Moody Bible but opened the second half with a flurry of goals to take the lead. Less than 1 minute into the second half, sophomore Brandon Oeltjenbruns (Arvada, Colo.) tied the game at 1-1 with his third goal of the season off an assist from Erik Manriquez (Rockford, Ill.). It was Manriquez's seventh assist of the season, which currently leads the NACC and puts him tied for third in the country. Less than one minute later, Rockford took its first lead of the match when Omar Rivas (Capron, Ill.) found the back of the net for the sixth time this year to put his team in front 2-1. Oeltjenbruns, who scored the previous goal, was credited with his first assist of the season. The Regents would add one additional goal late in the half from Jose Magallanes (Crest Hill, Ill.) to extend their lead and secure a 3-2 victory.
The RU men's soccer team will be back in action on Saturday, September 24 at home against Wisconsin Lutheran College. The match has a scheduled start time of noon at Sportscore 2 in Wedgbury Stadium.
