Former Regent Jake Nicholson Signs with Rockford Aviators

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Former Regents pitcher Jake Nicholson (Stillman Valley, Ill./Stillman Valley) has signed a contract with the Rockford Aviators professional baseball team. Nicholson will take part in spring training with the Aviators in the coming weeks in attempt to earn a roster sport for the 2013 season.

After playing his first two seasons at Rock Valley, Nicholson transfered to Rockford College and completed his collegiate career with an impressive 2-years as a Regent. He received Second Team All-NAC honors after his senior season and was also named Northern Athletics Conference Pitcher of the Week on three separate occasions. Last season Nicholson received national attention when he was named as a starting pitcher to the D3Baseball.com Team of the Week after tossing a complete game 1-hitter while recording 9 strikeouts. Nicholson finished his career with a .316 average, 91 hits, 18 doubles, 3 triples, 4 home runs and 51 runs batted in. On the mound he posted an 8-6 record with a 3.73 earned run average and 5 saves. He also tossed 6 complete games including 3 complete game shutouts and struck out 71 batters.
